“The presence of a first aid box isn’t just about treating injuries — it’s about creating a culture of care, safety, and preparedness.”
– Dr. Renu S., Community Health Advocate
In 2024, Avant Welfare Foundation took a meaningful step toward strengthening health infrastructure in government schools by installing fully-equipped first aid boxes in two schools facing a lack of basic medical support. These schools, like many others in underserved communities, often struggle with limited resources to handle everyday health incidents — from minor cuts and falls to sudden fevers or headaches.
This initiative was born from a simple yet powerful realization: children learn better when they feel safe. Providing first aid resources not only ensures quick response to minor injuries but also creates a more responsible and health-aware school environment.
Each first aid box was stocked with essential items such as antiseptic solutions, adhesive bandages, sterile cotton, thermometers, ORS sachets, and basic over-the-counter medicines like paracetamol — along with clear instructions for safe use. These boxes were placed in easily accessible locations and introduced to school staff through a short orientation session, ensuring that teachers and caretakers are confident and ready to assist when needed.
While small in appearance, these first aid boxes serve a big purpose. They give educators and caregivers the ability to respond immediately to emergencies, reduce panic in unexpected situations and foster a culture of safety and awareness within the school community.
More importantly, the presence of such health safeguards reflects dignity and respect for every student’s well-being. It shows that their health matters — not just during medical camps or check-ups, but every single day.
By installing these first aid kits, Avant Welfare Foundation reinforces its belief that health is a right, not a privilege — and that safe learning spaces are the first step toward empowered futures.
