Brake The Chain – A Road Safety initiative

Brake The Chain: How our Riders & Cyclists turned a Sunday Morning into a Road Safety Movement

Some events end when the finish line is crossed.

Some events begin there.

On 25th January 2025, Avant Welfare Foundation set out to do more than organise a ride. We set out to start a movement.

The result was Brake The Chain – A Cyclothon and Bike Rally for Road Safety — an initiative designed to create awareness, inspire responsibility and remind citizens that safer roads are not just the government’s responsibility, but a collective one.

Why Brake The Chain?

January in India is observed as National Road Safety Month—a time dedicated to highlighting the urgent need for safer roads and responsible behaviour. At the same time, 2025 marked a proud milestone: 77 years of the Indian Republic.

We wanted to bring these two ideas together.

  • Freedom and responsibility.
  • Movement and mindfulness.
  • Celebration and awareness.

That is how the idea of Brake The Chain was born.

The concept was simple yet powerful—bring together cyclists and bikers from across Bengaluru, have them ride a symbolic distance of more than 77 kilometres, and use the journey to send one strong message:

Awareness Today. Lives Tomorrow.

The Big Day – 25th January 2025

As dawn broke on Sunday morning, the energy at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, HSR Layout was electric.

One by one, riders arrived—some seasoned endurance cyclists, some passionate weekend bikers, some first-time participants. Different ages, different professions, different backgrounds. But all united by one cause: ROAD SAFETY.

Each of them chose to wake up early, show up and ride not for a medal or a prize — but for a purpose.

From HSR Layout, the convoy made its way through Bengaluru’s roads toward Hasiru Farms on Kanakapura Road, covering over 77 kilometres. The ride was challenging, the sun was strong and the distance demanded grit and discipline.

But every pedal stroke and every kilometre ridden carried a message far greater than the effort involved.

True Champions of the Road

To us, the real heroes of Brake The Chain were not the organisers.

  • They were the participants.
  • The cyclists who pushed through fatigue.
  • The bikers who rode with responsibility and discipline.
  • The volunteers who ensured safety and coordination.
  • The supporters who cheered along the way.

They showed that road safety is not just about rules and regulations — it is about attitude, awareness and accountability.

Every participant became an ambassador for safer roads that day.

Their ride was proof that ordinary citizens can do extraordinary things when they come together for a meaningful cause. They inspired strangers on the streets, sparked conversations and reminded people that roads are shared spaces that demand mutual respect.

More Than a Ride – The Beginning of a Campaign

From the very beginning, Brake The Chain was never planned as a standalone event.

The rally on January 25 was only the first chapter.

It now flows into a month-long awareness campaign led by Avant Welfare Foundation — focused on:

  1. Promoting responsible riding and driving habits
  2. Encouraging helmet and seatbelt use
  3. Creating awareness about traffic rules
  4. Advocating patience, empathy and caution on the road
  5. Building a culture where road safety becomes a shared priority

Through digital outreach, community engagement and continued advocacy, we aim to ensure that the message from this ride continues to echo long after the event day.

Real change does not happen in a single morning.

It happens when awareness turns into action.

Grateful for Support That Matters

Movements like these are never built alone.

Brake The Chain was proudly supported by Hasiru Farms, whose generous contribution to Avant Welfare Foundation helped bring this initiative to life. Their support reflected a shared belief that organisations can and must play an active role in building safer, healthier communities.

Their involvement strengthened our resolve and enabled us to execute the event with greater impact and outreach.

Why This Matters Now More Than Ever

India loses thousands of lives every year to road accidents—most of them preventable.

Speeding, distracted driving, lack of helmets, poor road etiquette — these continue to claim lives that could have been saved with just a little more awareness and responsibility.

Brake The Chain was our way of addressing this crisis—not through lectures or statistics, but through action.

By putting real people on the road, riding for a cause, we showed that road safety is not an abstract idea – It is a daily choice.

Every time we choose patience over aggression.

Every time we respect a signal.

Every time we wear a helmet or fasten a seatbelt.

We choose life.

A Game Changer in Road Safety Advocacy

What made Brake The Chain special was its spirit.

It wasn’t just an event.

It was a statement.

A statement that communities can come together for safer cities.

That awareness can be creative and participatory.

That advocacy can be energetic, positive and inspiring.

By blending endurance sport with social responsibility, we created a model of engagement that we believe can be replicated across cities and communities.

This is just the beginning.

Looking Ahead

Avant Welfare Foundation remains committed to working toward safer roads, healthier lifestyles and stronger communities.

Brake The Chain has shown us what is possible when people care enough to act. Our mission now is to build on this momentum and continue driving conversations, collaborations and change.

To everyone who rode with us, supported us and believed in this cause — thank you.

You are not just participants.

You are pioneers of a safer tomorrow.

Let’s continue to ride, drive and live responsibly.

Because safer roads are not a dream.

They are a choice we make together.

On-ground event concluded on the 25th of January 2026.
