Community Solar Light Project

Lighting the Way: Solar Lights for Safer Neighbourhoods

“A single light can chase away the darkest fear — especially when powered by the sun and driven by community hope.

Because true progress doesn’t just light up homes — it lights up lives.

In March 2025, a community in South Bengaluru saw the glow of safety and sustainability return to its streets, thanks to a solar lighting initiative carried out by Avant Welfare Foundation. The project involved the installation of a solar-powered streetlight across dimly lit and high-footfall zones of the locality — a change that instantly transformed the area after dark.

This effort was driven by two critical needs: improving safety and embracing renewable energy at the grassroots level.

This initiative has not only illuminated streets but also strengthened community trust and visibility. With the public space now better lit, there has been an increase in evening outdoor activities, safer walks for children and improved neighbourhood safety. Residents now report feeling more confident and secure in their own surroundings.

The project also sparked conversations about renewable energy adoption, inspiring neighbouring areas to explore solar-powered solutions for their own communities.

Building on this success, similar solar lighting installations are being planned in nearby vulnerable areas, as part of Avant Welfare Foundation’s ongoing mission to support sustainable urban development, climate-friendly solutions and human-centric public safety.
