To know how to best take care of your sapling/seed ball, please read the instructions below:

How to care for your mahogany tree sapling
Sapling for Planet Pals

How to Care for Your Tree Sapling :

1. Unpacking:
– Gently remove the sapling from the plastic pot, ensuring the root ball stays intact.
– Inspect the roots; trim any damaged or dead roots with clean scissors.

2. Choose the Right Pot or Ground:
– If Repotting: Choose a pot 2-3 inches larger in diameter than the current one.
– If Planting in Ground: Select a sunny, well-drained spot in your yard.

3. Repotting:
– Fill the new pot with 1-2 inches of fresh potting soil at the bottom.
– Place the sapling in the center, ensuring the root ball sits at the same level it was in the plastic pot.
– Fill the rest of the pot with soil, gently pressing to eliminate air pockets.

4. Planting in Ground:
– Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball.
– Place the sapling in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the surrounding soil.
– Fill in with soil, gently firming it around the roots.

5. Watering:
– Water the sapling thoroughly after repotting or planting in the ground.
– Keep the soil moist, but not soggy, for the first few weeks.
– Water regularly, especially in hot or dry conditions, but avoid over-watering.

6. Mulching:
– Add a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base (keep mulch away from the trunk) to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

7. Location & Sunlight:
– Place the pot in a location with good sunlight (6+ hours/day).
– If planting in the ground, choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil.

8. Staking (Optional):
– Stake the sapling if it’s top-heavy or in a windy area, but avoid tying it too tightly to allow for natural movement.

9. Monitor Growth:
– Check the tree regularly for signs of stress, such as wilting or yellowing leaves, and adjust watering or light exposure as needed.

10. Fertilizing:
– Wait until the sapling shows signs of new growth (1-2 months) before applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.

11. Patience:
– Be patient and allow your sapling time to establish roots. Avoid over-fertilizing or moving it frequently.

Seedballs for Planet Pals

How to Care for Your Seed-ball:

1. Choose the Right Location:
– Select a spot with good sunlight (most seeds need 6+ hours a day).
– Ensure the soil is well-drained for healthy seed growth.

2. Prepare the Ground:
– Clear the area of weeds or grass to give the seed ball space to grow.
– Loosen the soil slightly with a rake or hoe to help the seeds germinate.

3. Planting the Seed Ball:
– Gently place the seed ball on the soil’s surface; no need to bury it deeply.
– Lightly press it into the soil to ensure good contact.

4. Watering:
– Water the seed ball thoroughly after planting to help break down the ball and hydrate the seeds.
– Keep the area moist, but not waterlogged, until the seeds begin to sprout.

5. Ongoing Watering:
– Once the seeds sprout, continue watering regularly to keep the soil moist, especially in dry weather.
– Water deeply to encourage strong root growth.

6. Mulching (Optional):
– Add a thin layer of mulch around the seed ball to retain moisture and protect from temperature extremes.

7. Monitor Growth:
– Watch for sprouts in 1-3 weeks, depending on the seed type.
– If needed, thin out any overcrowded seedlings to give them more space.

8. Weed Control:
– Remove any weeds that appear around the seed ball, as they can compete with your seedlings for nutrients and water.

9. Patience:
– Seed balls take time to grow. Be patient as the seeds germinate and establish themselves.

10. Fertilizing (Optional):
– Once seedlings are well-established, you can apply a light, organic fertilizer to encourage healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing.
